I was born February 1960 in Maspeth, Queens, first of two sons of Lucy and Felix Tornatore, and raised in Whitestone, Queens, just outside the shadow of Shea Stadium. I am a devote Met and Jet fan. During my formative years, I developed a love for science and math, which ultimately led me to a career in the healthcare field.
My education began at Saint Francis Preparatory High School, where I graduated as a member of the National Honor Society in 1978. I received my bachelor’s degree from New York University. My studies included a rigorous Pre Dental curriculum and a joint major in Mathematics and Computer Science, with minor studies in Philosophy. I served as president, treasurer and vice-president of the Theta Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi Delta national Fraternity.
My dental degree was obtained from New York University, College of Dentistry, in June 1986. Upon graduation, I was recognized in the top ten percent in my class, and received a citation for comprehensive care student assistant faculty coordinator, received the Bernard E. Rudner Memorial Comprehensive Care Award, and was an active member of the Beta chapter of the national professional Fraternity Xi Psi Phi. I was inducted into the OKU (Omicron Kappa Upsilon) National Academic Fraternity.
